Clear Lake, Iowa Fishing Report – June 8, 2025

General Conditions:

Clear Lake is currently looking good for anglers. The lake level is about half an inch over crest, and water temperatures are in the upper 60s Fahrenheit. Water clarity is around 40 inches.

Species-Specific Reports:

* Walleye: Good. Anglers are having success with live bait or crankbaits, particularly near deeper vegetation beds. Evening fishing remains productive, especially fishing the East shore, around the Island, and near rock reefs. Remember the protected slot limit for Walleye: fish between 17 and 22 inches must be immediately released.

* Black Crappie: Fair. Crappie are being caught, with some moving into rush beds. Try small jigs and live bait fished slowly. Anglers are also finding them along the Ice House Point shoreline and in the marina.

* Yellow Bass: Good. Small jigs near shallow rock have been effective on warmer days, with the best bite being early mornings.

* Bluegill: Fair. Anglers are picking up some keeper-size bluegill (around 7 inches) near shore. Small jigs around the shallows and any structure close to shore are good options.

* Channel Catfish: Fair. Try using crawlers or cut bait fished on the bottom from shore.

Tips for Anglers:

* Walleye: Consider trolling the main basin with shad-body crankbaits, allowing them to run a foot or two above the bottom. Try deep vegetation, in pockets or on the edges using a jig and crawler or slip bobber and leech.

* Crappie: Look for structures and try drifting a minnow under a slip bobber or casting and retrieving crappie jigs.

* Yellow Bass: The early morning bite is often the most active.
